High rate biological production of hydrogen sulfide from elemental sulfur for industrial applications

Biosulfur is a by-product from WWTP (biogas) and natural gas industry after gas desulfurization. The high bioavailability of biosulfur seems to make its valorization promising by a biosulfidogenesis process to produce biogenic sulfide, which is useful for many industrial applications. This project aims to achieve high rate biological production of H2S from biosulfur for industrial applications.

This investigation entails the execution of both batch and reactor experiments, with a deliberate exploration of the impact of diverse process parameters, such as conductivity, pH, and temperature, etc., to achieve high rate of H2S production. Furthermore, this study will involve a comprehensive examination of biomass concentration, retention, and growth dynamics, alongside the development and rigorous evaluation of process control strategies.

Throughout the study, it is anticipated that the technology under scrutiny will evolve to a state of readiness for pilot-scale testing. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure its efficient integration and long-term applicability within the industrial sector.
