The overarching goal of this PhD is to investigate the dynamics of agricultural land that becomes available due to farmer business termination and its relation to the transition to sustainable agriculture. To do so I will investigate how current land transfers in the agricultural sector in the Netherlands relate to land management changes and how these management changes impact the environment. Additionally, I will explore if relationships can be found between specific actors on the side of land acquisition and land management changes after the land is acquired. I will develop an agent based model that simulates agricultural land transfer and the associated changes in land management under different scenarios.
