Combining chemo- and bio-electro-synthesis of chemicals

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the primary greenhouse gas. Globally, there is ongoing effort to reduce CO2 emissions. CO2 can be converted to valuable products using various methods, for example with chemical or biological conversion. Importantly, the use of renewable electricity to power the conversion of CO2 to products like fuels, is a method to store and transport this renewable electricity, in the convenient form of produced liquid fuels. Here, a promising conversion method is selected, namely microbial electro-synthesis, and the objective is to improve its performance, targeted at CO2 conversion into liquid fuels.
