In order to for decision makers to design the sustainable and resilient cities and towns of the future information is needed about the state of current urban land use. On a small scale, already considerable work has been done to classify different functions of urban fabric. On a large scale the focus has been on classifying physical properties of urban land use without the description of the socio-economic function it fulfils. In order to provide decision makers with information specifically tailored for sustainable urban land use this PhD project focusses on developing a large scale urban land use map. The large scale map will be used to analyse the differences in urban land uses between regions. Additionally the urban land use map will be used as input for a flood risk model.
