We will characterize 3D pillared Ni-based electrodes to optimize the electrode design for hydrogen production via water electrolysis.
The project is divided into two main research objectives:
1. Electrochemical characterization and benchmarking of pillared Ni electrodes for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), where we optimize the electrode design for advanced performance. We will focus on improving the bubble detachment from the electrode surface by modifying a) the electrode design parameters and b) electrolyte flow configuration in the electrolyzer.
2. Bipolar membrane assisted water electrolysis, where we test the feasibility of a novel electrolysis configuration using the previously optimized pillared electrodes for hydrogen production via water electrolysis.
