The main objective of this research project has been to understand the business case for sustainable plastic management and explore the societal implications of business engagement with this environmental challenge. The four studies in the dissertation were designed to catalogue the businesses working in this dynamic environment and to understand how they create a viable business while also contributing to societal goals of reducing plastic pollution. The research uses a variety of methodologies to study hundreds of business case studies and is embedded in three main research strands addressing three nested theoretical perspectives: sustainable business models, sustainable entrepreneurship and sustainability transitions.
